WA!

WA! – GROUP Game

Great for: Middle School

Directions: Have the campers form a standing circle and hold their hands in front of their chest, palms together.

Choose a camper (Camper 1) to begin. They will count down from three, then point their hands at another camper in the circle (Camper 2) and yell “WA!”- being sure to make eye contact.

Camper 2 then points their hands to the sky and yells “WA!”

Then the campers on either side of Camper 2 swing their hands towards the camper (like a ninja slice) and shout “WA!”, being careful not to make contact.

Camper 2 then points their hands towards another camper in the circle (Camper 3) and yells “WA!”

The Cycle continues with Camper 3 pointing up and shouting “WA!”, the campers on either side of them ninja slicing inwards and yelling “WA!”

The game continues until a camper misses their move or does not yell, “WA!” in time. That camper sits down and is out. Continue until there are two campers left (then rock-paper-scissors).

Very similar to this game (though please play the WA! version):

Relay (Animal and Normal)

Animal Relay – Active Game

Directions: Create at least two teams that are even (if not even then AG should play or an eager camper can go twice). Have each team’s members form a line. Choose an animal and show how that animal runs (horse – gallop, frog/kangaroo – hop, bear – bear crawl, cheetah – run as fast as you can, snail – move slow) The first player in each line must “animal run” around a marker/cone. Once the first player is back, then the second player goes, etc. The first team to have all members complete the course and sit down wins.

The first player in each line must run around a marker/cone. (Or if there will be multiple rounds they can skip, two footed hop, grapevine, bear crawl.. whatever you think would be best for your group)  Once the first player is back, then the second player goes, etc. The first team to have all members complete the course and sit down wins.

Lyrics

Make Your Claim

Use your argument, your words to win, or lose now

Make Your Claim

Use your argument, your words to win, or lose now

Make Your Claim

Use your argument, your words to win, or lose now

Make Your Claim

Use your argument, your words to win, or lose now

If you want the power first you make a claim
Think of all the reasons, for your argument
Evidence you reasons unpack and explain unpack and explain
Y’all can’t touch my claim

CHORUS

This is how I feel, this is why I feels it
My evidence is real my reasons are the ceiling
And I got proof from a credible source?
Evidence for reasons I reinforce

So what? Counterclaim and rebuttal

So what? Counterclaim and rebuttal

So what? Counterclaim and rebuttal
Get out of my way
Y’all can’t touch my claim

CHORUS [ROBOT FILTER]

They say birds of a feather, we flock together, whether you like it or not were all connected
You don’t have to feel my claim, but you’ll respect my flow.
You can’t discount or question what my intellect is

Get Organized, baby get it together, no borderline get smarter
Get Organized, baby get it together, no borderline get smarter

Sound Smarter x 4

You need to sort and categorize, what is your main idea you need to synthesize
We talkin boxes and bullets, flow charts, and  cause and effect
talkin problem solution a timeline come correct
with a story arc a sequence and order, maybe compare and contrast to tighten up this disorder
You need a claim brah evidenced with some reasons
if you want to sound smarter get  organized and believe it

Get Organized, baby get it together, no borderline get smarter
Get Organized, baby get it together, no borderline get smarter

Lyrics

I just need to get ahead,
so what if the words that I type up aren’t necessarily from my head?
Oh I just want to turn it in
Nobody’s gonna notice, get away with stealing

Whose words are these?
Cuz they ain’t yours
Whose words are these?
Better cite your source

Whose words are these?
Cuz they ain’t yours
Whose words are these?
Better cite your source

Whose words are these?
Cuz they ain’t yours
Whose words are these?
Better cite your source

I just want to get an A,
so what if the words that I type up aren’t necessarily from my head?
Oh I just want to turn it in
Nobody’s gonna notice, get away with stealing

CHORUS x 5

Lyrics

Stuck in a hollow
I’m a shell of myself I don’t want to stick out

Safer to follow
I can fade, be afraid, why stand? I can sit down

Tell me believe it, so I receive it
I’m strong I do belong, I’m strong I do belong
Help me to see it, so I can be it
I’m strong I do belong, I’m strong I do belong

I’ve got to take a chance on me

I’m First Your Second

I’m First Your Second

I’m First Your Second

I’m First Your Second

He or She is third

Chorus

It’s not a race, not a rank, it’s a choice
is your narrator 1st person 2nd person or 3rd person

1st person = I me we us,   if your telling the story
then your a major participant

2nd person = that it’s all about you. Advertising, songs, and speeches like to use this point of view

Chorus

3rd person rocks pronouns… like he, she, they
3rd person objective tells facts but doesn’t convey
Any characters feelings or thoughts—that’s 3rd person omniscient.

If they only know a few though
that’s 3rd person omniscient limited

Lyrics

Read like this, so you can write like this

Read like this, so you can write like this
Sniff out a theme like a hound dog
Uncover motivations a detective on a case
Which words make your head nod
What sentences capture your thoughts to relate

Diagnose a plot like a physician
What are the big ideas? What techniques are used?
How does she organize flow and transition?
How does his personality shine through?

Lyrics

Clap three times, you’ve been writing an incredible story.

Now stomp five times, you’ve been working for a long time.

Drop down to your belly, put your arms out like you’re soaring.

If you write a great book, you can make your reader fly.

So what’s going on in the story to keep this reader entertained?

‘Cause I’m losing interest. What’s going to make this reader stay?

Whatcha whatcha whatcha whatcha problem? (What’s your problem?)

Whatcha whatcha whatcha whatcha problem? (What’s your problem?)

Whatcha whatcha whatcha whatcha problem? (What’s your problem?)

Whatcha whatcha whatcha whatcha problem? (What’s your problem?)

Could this character be my friend?

Could they overcome something?

‘Cause if not, this reader might jump jump jump to another book.

Clap three times, you’ve been writing an incredible story.

Now stomp five times, you’ve been working for a long time.

Drop down to your belly, put your arms out like you’re soaring.

If you write a great book, you can make your reader fly.

So what’s going on in the story to keep this reader entertained?

Lyrics

Stand up for what you have to say(Stand up)

Stand up for what you have to say

Stand up for what you have to say(and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say (Stand up and own it)

I am a public speaker

I practice all the time

Bounce words right off the mirror

Calm, confident, and poised

Make sure to speak words clearly

Not too quiet, or too loud

try not to speak too fast or slow

Sometimes I pause to move a crowd

Stand up for what you have to say(and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say(and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say(Stand up and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say (Stand up and own it)

I am a public speaker

I practice all the time

Bounce words right off the mirror

Calm, confident, and poised

I directly address my audience

With counter arguments and questions

It’s important to connect them

I use eye contact and gestures

Stand up for what you have to say(and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say(and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say(Stand up and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say (Stand up and own it)

Stand Up, Stand Up, Stand Up (Stand Up and own it)

Stand Up, Stand Up, Stand Up (Stand Up and own it)

Stand Up, Stand Up, Stand Up (Stand and own it)

Stand up for what you have to say (Stand up and own it)

Stand Up!
