It is incredibly important that we maintain a cool, comfortable learning environment for campers. It will make their experience better and your life easier with regard to discipline. Most of the camp locations will have air conditioning, and as Site Administrator, it is your responsibility to make sure that the air is on and working in each room all day. In our experience, many of the classrooms have 90 minute to two hour timers on the AC, and in those situations, you will need to step into each room at regular intervals throughout the day to make sure the AC is on and functioning.
Key Notes:
- Don’t wait until it gets hot to turn it on! It is much easier to keep a room cool than to cool a hot room full of kids. Make it part of your daily routine to turn the AC on early in the morning.
- Don’t rely on the teachers to turn on the AC. In our experience, they get busy and experience the “frog in a pot of boiling water” situation where they don’t notice the temperature gradually creeping up in their room.
- Know who to call if the AC is not working. Response may not be immediate, so call as soon as a problem is noted.
- Kids in a cool room are better able to focus and learn.
- Kids in a hot room are more likely to wiggle, squirm, feel bored, and become discipline-challenges.
