Health and Safety – Medication, Allergies and Food

Medication
If a camper requires medication during camp, a parent must first complete the Permission to Administer Medication form. Parents are asked to bring the form to the first day of camp. All medication should be clearly labeled and in its original container. When received, Medication Release Forms should be stored in the Medication/Rosters section of the Camp Management Binder and all medications should be carried in the First Aid Backpack and worn at all times by the Site Administrator (or Assistant Site Administrator during SuperPlay hours), unless otherwise directed by the parent.

Additional Medication Release forms are included in the Medication and Rosters section of your Camp Management Binder.

Allergies
Information about camper allergies was given by parents during the registration process and can be found on the Ranger Report (www.AIWcamp.com/reporting). It is your responsibility to download and become familiar with the medical needs of your campers. At the start of each camp you should meet with your team to review camper medical needs and let them know where to find specific medication (if it is not in your possession).

Food
Food allergies present a serious threat to camper health and safety. As such, Adventures in Writing Camp does not provide food to campers, or permit campers to share food with each other.

Staff members are prohibited from sharing food with campers. If a camper forgets lunch or a snack, ask the camper’s parent to bring food for their child. If you see campers sharing food, it is your responsibility to stop the sharing.

Camper rosters that indicate food allergies are available to all staff. If you have responsibility for a camper who has a serious allergy, make it a point to check-in with the parent and camper regularly, and take every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of that camper.
