Camp Staff

MEET THE TEAM

Jami Peters, Site Administrator

Teaching is an absolute passion of mine! I grew up in Chino Hills and graduated from Ayala High School in 2002. I moved to Orange over a year ago and love it there. I am the youngest of 2. I graduated from San Jose State University with a major in psychology and minor in social work. I was a caseworker at Boys Republic before I moved out to Huntington Beach to be closer to family in 2008. I knew my senior year in San Jose that I wanted to work with children and make a difference, so I attended Azusa Pacific University receiving a masters in education and a multiple subject credential. I have been teaching for eight years and I absolutely love it. I taught third grade and junior high math and science courses in a private school. I am currently teaching sixth grade for a public school and I am grade level chair for all the fifth and sixth grade teachers at our campus. In addition, I am in the program for future administrators for my school district. I absolutely love teaching. It is my mission to instill a love for learning in my students. I attempt to teach with a passion for learning so that my students develop a desire to become life-long learners. I look forward to a great camp together!

Kari Munoz, Writing Ranger

My name is Kari Munoz! I earned my Undergraduate from Cal State Fullerton in Health Science, specifically Health Education, and I minored in Kinesiology. Through college, I coached girls softball in Orange, and I taught after school Chess throughout Orange County. I also taught for the Fullerton School District teaching physical education. I finished my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential program through Cal State Fullerton, with an emphasis in Arts and Creativity. Since then, I have been substitute teaching in Fullerton, which I love! I am passionate about science, writing, fun, and creativity! I love to incorporate games and manipulatives when learning, and I believe in teaching to the multiple intelligences. I can't wait to work this summer with Adventures in Writing!

Clare Reiland, Writing Ranger (Middle School)

Clare is SO excited for camp!! She is originally from Irvine, but she just moved back to Orange County from San Francisco, where she pursued a Master's Degree in Teaching at the University of San Francisco. Clare's been a part of various classrooms throughout San Francisco and the SF Bay Area, but she is excited to return where her own education started! Outside of the classroom, she enjoys listening to music, hiking, traveling, and (of course) writing! This is her second year at AIW. She's so excited to meet the campers and to have a great summer!!

Elizabeth Rangel, Adventure Guide (Counselor)

Elizabeth is an extremely passionate person. Some of her passions include animals, reading, Disney movies (her favorite is Ratatouille), music, and sports - but most of all, she is passionate about helping others! Elizabeth always tries to devote her time to volunteering, tutoring, and any other way that she can help people. This is her second year at Adventures in Writing Camp, and she can't wait to meet everyone!

Josephine Catalusci Medina, Adventure Guide (Counselor)

Josephine Medina is incredibly excited for her second year at Adventures in Writing Camp! She is currently attending Vanguard University as a sophomore psychology and history major. She has worked as a camp counselor at several camps, with children of all ages, and is thrilled to help students create their own spectacular stories! Nothing is more amazing than a homemade story! She loves hiking, exploring, and traveling; and enjoys nothing more than a good book and some hot chocolate.

Philip Black, Entertainment Ranger

This is Philip Black's third summer working with Adventures in Writing Camp, and he is THRILLED to be back. He received his B.A. in Theatre Performance from Huntington University (in Huntington, IN), where he was a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society, the Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Society, and a Colloquium Scholar. He has spent the past 10 years working at theaters across America, performing mostly in comedies and musicals. Making people laugh is the thing he enjoys most, followed closely by reading. As he has traveled, he has made a point of always joining the local library. (At last count, he has 5 active library cards.) Along the way, Philip has also developed a distinct passion for teaching, helping to run educational "backstage experience" tours in Michigan, doing interactive Treasure Island performances for grade students in Missouri, and teaching for two summers at Camp Melodrama, a theatrical camp for students K-8 in California's Central Coast. He currently spends his days during the school year as a full-time presenter with California Weekly Explorer, running "game show" styled interactive history presentations for grades 4-6 all over Orange County.

Kirstin Joyce, Adventure Guide (Counselor)

Kirstin's favorite movie growing up was Beauty and the Beast - most girls wanted the castle, but she just wanted the library. As an aspiring teacher at California State University Chico, she's fortunate enough to have been hired as an English and Political Science mentor on her campus and gets to spend lots of time guiding incoming freshman to success in their classes. As a member of the mentoring program, she has been trained in methods of teaching that include hands-on learning, group activities, and making sure others feel positive about themselves and their abilities within the classroom. Her personal take on writing? It is one of the best ways that young minds can express and discover themselves, and she is crazy excited to be working with so many creative kids! When she's not hitting the books or coming up with story ideas (she would read and write all day if she could), you can probably find her at the movies or in the nearest cupcake shop - she seriously loves those things!

Zachary Peterson, Adventure Guide (Counselor)

Zachary’s love of language is only outmatched by his passion for learning. A recent graduate of California State University Fullerton, with Bachelor’s Degrees in both English and Theater, Zachary is currently pursuing a career in education. Realizing from a young age that someone had to be making edu-tainment programs like Sesame Street and Blues Clues, Zachary has devoted much of his life to inspiring the same level of joy in learning new things. In his spare time Zachary enjoys old films, board games, and carpentry. His own writing is focused on fantasy and science fiction, which he likes to bring to life with table-top games. He is excited to share his passion for writing and creating this summer with Adventures in Writing!

Molli Patterson, eBook Ranger

Molli is a current 4th grade teacher in South Orange County. She been teaching full time in the classroom for 6 years, but has taught in a variety of ways for about 9 years. From subbing, teaching dance, and an outdoor Science program. Molli holds a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Social Studies as well as a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Masters in Education. She loves school and hopes to go back one day to further her education! Molli loves all things reading and writing! Sitting down with a good book is a favorite hobby of hers. Luckily she finds a lot of time for reading in the summer! When she isn't teaching or reading, she loves to spend her time in the great outdoors. Hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, camping, if it involves the sunshine and beautiful landscape, count her in. I am excited to work with each child and help their imaginations come alive in story writing!

Jack Sorenson, Supervised Play Scout

Jack Sorenson is a new addition to Adventures in Writing Camp and someone who is constantly learning. Whether it be exploring the outdoors on weekends, reading a great book, or playing music, he never passes up an opportunity to experience something new.

Jack is an avid writer and reader himself, and can’t wait to help campers discover their own love for stories and writing. Be it by playing songs on the guitar or making up a dance, Jack is always ready to make learning fun and interesting.

Jack has tutored and babysat and is an active volunteer in his community. He is currently attending San Clemente High School where he is a honor roll student, and he hopes to study English and writing in college.

Keely OLoughlin Camp, Assistant Site Administrator

We're excited to welcome back Keely for her third year with AIW! She has been an Adventure Guide as well as an Entertainment Ranger so she knows this camp pretty well by now. Keely lives in Southern California during the school year and spends most of her time either working as a Behavior Therapist or attending school at UC Irvine. She majors in Psychology and Social Behavior with a minor in Education. When she is not busy with work or school, Keely enjoys reading, hiking/being outdoors, baking/cooking, playing basketball, and enjoying time with friends! She is extremely delighted to be back this summer and looks forward to the crazy adventures that await!
